DataPlow Products
DataPlow has two SAN-based, clustered file system product lines:
SAN File System (SFS) and Nasan clustered file system. Due to unique,
patented designs, both file systems fully exploit the high-speed, scalable data transfers
inherent to SANs. Though architecturally similar, the file systems are tuned for different
environments and workloads. DataPlow SFS is a general-purpose file system for a wide variety
of environments, whereas Nasan specifically targets read-intensive workloads.
SAN File System
DataPlow SAN File System is software that enables high-speed, yet secure, access to shared
files located on SAN-attached storage devices. SFS is easy to manage, resilient to
hardware failures, and simple to integrate into any environment.
The following figure illustrates an SFS environment. Computers A, B, and C running DataPlow SFS
connect to storage devices via the SAN. Additionally, computers B and C operate as NFS and/or CIFS
file servers and extend file sharing to LAN-based computers D and E.

Nasan Clustered File System
DataPlow Nasan clustered file system software utilizes scalable SANs and central file servers to facilitate
high-performance file sharing. The SAN carries out high-speed data transfers, while the file
servers ensure low-latency data consistency. Nasan is ideal for read-intensive workloads.
Nasan clustered file sharing is an extension of traditional LAN file sharing. Deploying a Nasan cluster
simply entails configuring LAN file sharing, installing Nasan file system software, and connecting
computers and storage devices to the SAN. Upgrading an existing LAN, which already utilizes
SAN-attached storage, merely involves installing software and connecting the SAN; downtime is
minimal because all previously stored files remain unaffected by the upgrade.
The following figure illustrates a Nasan cluster environment that contains one or more computers running
DataPlow Nasan, SAN-attached storage devices, and at least one, non-dedicated file server.
